Belly pic

My girlfriend, who is a twin, and I are both pregnant together and she had her babyshower last weekend.  The running joke for her is that she's carrying twins, because she is "big" for how far along she is (She is 10 days ahead of me).  I think I'm passing her up though, what do you think?

I love this pic! Me at 29 weeks 2 days!

29 weeks!

Unbelievable!  I am so happy to be here at this moment with only seven weeks to go (to reach my goal!).  But, yesterday it hit me... I have SEVEN weeks to go!!!  I have to be honest, I'm freaking out, just a little! Ahhhh... I could scream! LOL!  I have so many emotions going through me, but I'm sure every new mother has.  I am scared about the delivery, about having TWO babies, about breast feeding, and about a million other little things that would probably fill this blog!  I just remind myself that its NORMAL!

Last night I had my first labor dream as well.  I was 34 weeks, we went to the wrong hospital, then I decided to leave and go to our's, we get there I'm 10 centimeters dialated, and Chris didn't pack the camera or video camera so he was just going to use his phone.  I am such a freak about taking pics and documenting details that not having the camera there was a nightmare for me!  Good thing it was just a dream!

I know I didn't do a 28 week update, I was just not in the mood last week, but here is my 29th!!!

29 week update:

29 weeks 0 days Belly

How far along: 29 weeks 1 day!

How big are the babies:  They are squashes!

Babies energy is surging, thanks to white fat depositing beneath his skin. And since he's growing so fast (weight will triple by birth), things are getting kind of cramped in the womb. What all this means for you: Get ready for some more kicks and jabs to the ribs.

Thanks to your ever-expanding uterus, it's time to welcome back the constant bathroom dashes. And try your best to forget about any emerging varicose veins -- they might be ugly, but they're harmless and should fade after delivery. Until then, avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time and make sure to get some exercise (it'll boost your circulation).

Total weight gain:  I'm up to 33 lbs!  The last three weeks I've been gaining about 2 lbs/week...  Back on track!

Maternity Clothes: I'm getting rid of this one... It's obvious now, I'm huge!

Sleep: Good!  Except I woke up this morning at 430, laid there for a while then had to eat something... back to first trimester hunger!

GENDER: Two precious little BOYS!!!! We are more than blessed :)

Movement: Lots of movement all the time.  Very few kicks though, more like stretching, rolling movements!

Food Cravings: Fruit! Strawberries, watermelon, peaches, nectarines... lots of summer fruit!  Then again, I love it every summer!

What I miss: Being able to go for a walk without pain or having to pee.  Sometimes I will start out on a walk then have to turn around because I have to pee!  Now, I drive my dog to the park so he can run around, at least!

What I'm looking forward to: Seeing how much the babies weigh!  I go in a week!  Last month they were at 2lbs, so I hoping for 3lb baby boys!

Milestones: Officially, officially being in the 3rd trimester!

Symptoms: I've been having lots of ligament pains again.  I think its because the babies are growing so fast and are in a growth spurt that my uterus is stretching.  I'm also getting hungrier again = babies growth spurt!

Pain in the...

Groin!  I am in some serious pain and its only getting worse.  About two months ago, I was playing with my dog on the floor and I got up really quickly and I pulled my groin muscle.  I am assuming this is thanks to the lovely hormone, Relaxin.  I have tried resting it, icing it, stretching it and nothing is working.  It is only getting worse!  Yesterday I was even having trouble walking, which has carried into today, unfortunately.

I'm not sure what else to do.  I'm guessing the only way for it to heal is for me to deliver these babies, who are FAR from ready.  So for now, I guess I will hobble around in hopes for some comfort!

How my baby shower weekend began...

Thursday evening, C came home from work and walked upstairs to where I was sitting.  He was holding a little tiny gift bag.  "Here is your baby shower present," he said.  I took the little tiny bag and thought, how sweet, it probably jewelry to wear at my shower!  I peaked inside and saw a key.  My mouth dropped open and I looked up at him in shock and disbelief.  "Lets go get your new car, its at Kens house!" I was so excited and couldn't stop hugging and kissing him.

We had been looking at "Mama cars" for the past six months, but weren't planning (or so I thought!) to buy one until next month!  A couple days ago C picked me up  and told me he changed his mind on the car we should buy, to save money, etc.  He took me to a used car dealership and we looked at a SUV there.  It was nice, I liked it! I have since found out this was a decoy so he could surprise me with a BRAND NEW car!  And boy did he!

We pulled up at Ken's house and there it was... the most amazing "mama car" I have ever seen!  Its my "mama car!"   Its Perfect for our twin boys and a more than nice first baby shower gift!

I am so lucky to have the most amazing husband!  He is going to be the best Father a kid could ask for!

Right now, it is sitting outside packed with presents from my shower... more details to come!

TWO more months... TWO!

And I'll get  to my goal of 36 weeks and hopefully meet my little boys!  28 weeks feels really GREAT!  However, I swear, starting at 27 weeks, I have been feeling REALLY pregnant, hence the blog hiatus for a week!  I have been not only feeling really HUGE and UNCOMFORTABLE, but EXHAUSTED!  I honestly don't know what happened.  I was doing so good and then BAM(!!), third trimester starts, with all of its lovely symptoms!

I was feeling much better from taking the extra iron (slow FE), and now I feel like its not even working anymore!  I told my mom that and she (a labor and delivery nurse) suggested that I increase my dose... one in the morning and the evening.  She also said that they have some patients take it up to three times a day, so I felt comfortable adding the extra dose.  Honestly, I've only been taking the extra dose a couple days and I already feel better (placebo effect?).  Not sure if I would be a good person to have on a medical trial! LOL!  But, whatever, as long as I'm feeling better, right?

I've been really focusing on eating iron rich foods, which I know is the best way to get more iron in my diet.  Also iron is better absorbed when eating with vitamin C and less absorbed when eaten with Calcium.  So, I also try to not take my vitamins when I eat my daily bowl of wheat chex (which has 80% iron, BTW).

Okay, enough of the Iron talk... My Twin Baby Shower is in TWO DAYS and I couldn't be more excited!  I think its going to be fabulous!  I'm going to stay at my parents for the weekend, leaving in the morning, and C will be joining me tomorrow night to help set up, etc.  There should be about 40-50 people total, which is going to be more fun!  My friend, a photographer, is going to take lots of pics, so I will have a bunch to post!  I'm soooo excited and CANNOT wait!!!

Even more exciting... the cribs and dresser arrived yesterday!  YAY!  It makes everything so much more real seeing the room come together! And its perfect timing since the shower is this weekend, so we'll have places to put things (hopefully, lots of cute clothes and bedding!).  Here are a couple pics of the room so far...

The mattresses should be arriving soon, we picked out blackout curtains that match the bedding, which I'll order next week, and the rocking chair will be arriving in July (its custom made to order, I guess).

I'm registered for a couple sailboat mobiles from pottery barn.  But, if I don't get them, I'm thinking of ordering this instead... what do you think?

I can hang one in between the cribs so they both have a view.  Its pretty big, measuring 36" wide.  I guess even if I get the mobiles I registered for I can still get this one and take the others back.  We'll see!  This one also goes perfect with the bedding and the sailboats that are going on the wall over their cribs.

I can't wait to post about my (hopefully) fun filled weekend!  I hope you all enjoy yours!

27 down 9 to go!

My official goal is to make it to 36 weeks!  At my doctor visit on Tuesday I asked Dr.I what a good goal would be for me to reach for.  His answer was 34 weeks!  But he also said babies born after 32 weeks have virtually no major complication either.  But, to avoid the NICU, he said 36 weeks is a good goal!  36 it is!  I think we can do it!

I am officially feeling HUGE!  Yes I have had a belly for a while, but now I am really noticing it!  I don't know how I am going to continue to get bigger!  I'm sure my boys will make room though.  My skin is very tight now too and I'm really starting to worry about stretch marks.  So far I'm free of them, but I almost feel they are inevitable.  I've been looking into the Belly Bandit for helping shrink my tummy post labor.  I've heard great reviews from people I know as well as seeing it on a couple twin message boards.  Have any of you used it or know someone who has?  I'm going to work hard to get back into shape as soon as I can.  I know the first six weeks I'm going to rely on breast feeding.  My mom has always said that she "could eat what ever I wanted while breast feeding and the weight just fell off!"  I hope I have a similar experience!

27 week update:

How far along: 27 weeks EXACTLY!  I'm on time for once!

How big are the babies: At last weeks appointment, they were measuring 2 lbs and 2.1 lbs, so definitely over 2 now for both!

Total weight gain:  I gained 2 lbs this week (29 lbs total)!  Woo hoo!  I was starting to get worried there!  They must be going through another growth spurt because my appetite is back!  I've been eating a lot more, especially since reading the Brewers Diet!  I want to make sure my boys keep growing at a good rate so I've been making sure I eat enough protein, calcium, etc.  I don't want skinny babies!

Maternity Clothes:  I am officially HUGE!  90% of my clothes are maternity, but there are some shirts that I can still wear.  Unfortunately, they'll most likely be stretched out and not cute anymore after this pregnancy is done.

Sleep: Blah!  I had been sleeping great!  But last night I tossed and turned and am exhausted today :(

GENDER: Two precious little BOYS!!!! We are more than blessed :)

Movement: Is beginning to freak C out more and more.  He likes it for a moment the has to pull his hand away.  I had been telling him that I'm feeling less kicks and more rolling movement that goes across my tummy.  He felt that last night for the first time and it was "too much!" Ha ha.

Food Cravings: Milk, Milk, and MILK!!!

What I miss:  Being able to get up from laying down, I have absolutely NO ab strength anymore.  I miss being able to bend over.  I miss being able to shave "down there."  I can't see and nicked myself the other day, so now I'm scared to do anything!  I like it all gone, and lately I'm considering a Brazilian wax (ouch!).  I think it might be nice to have that done right before delivery, at least, so that I don't have to worry about grooming when I'm recovering.  If I can time it all right, that is!

What I'm looking forward to: Tonight I'm going to my first Moms of Multiples group!

Milestones: 3rd Trimester baby!  I'm claiming that now, even though there are mixed views!  Some say 26 weeks some say 28.  I think, especially because I'm carrying TWO babies it should actually be earlier!  I've been measuring about 7-8 weeks ahead this entire pregnancy!

Symptoms:  I FEEL HUGE!  I think that's a symptom! LOL!

My baby product tester...

We got our new Bob doulie double jogger stroller in the mail last night... a VERY nice gift from my parents!  Oliver jumped in just to make sure its safe for his little brothers!  I can't wait to use it, and acutally jog!  I can barely walk these days with out pain!  Maybe I'll take a stroll with my pooch, just to test it out :)

PASS!!!

I am so excited because I PASSED my Gestational Diabetes's test!  I really didn't think I had it, but because I have PCOS AND am carrying TWO babies and TWO placenta's, I knew I was at a much higher risk.  I was on Metformin for the first 12 weeks of this pregnancy and months prior.  I remember being so worried getting off of it, thinking I was just going to balloon up (get fat), or get GD.  Thank God none of those things happened.  I do eat a very healthy diet and am pretty health conscience as it is.  I've become even more so that I'm carrying my babies, so I truly thought it was unlikely that I would get it, but I knew of the possibility.  I am so excited that I don't have to give up my cereal!!!

I am slightly anemic, however.  I had started taking extra iron a month ago because of fatigue and have since began feeling MUCH better.  My energy levels have increased tremendously, so I'm assuming its working!

Today, A was still vertex and now B was breech.  He moved from the transverse position, I guess.  I am just happy that A is still vertex!  Now, stay put little one!

Moms of Multiples groups...

Not sure if I posted this, but C and I went to our first baby class at the hospital a little over a week ago.  It was the "scary class" as the teacher called it.  It was really called the Baby Savor class, because it went over CPR, choking, baby proofing, etc.  As a teacher, I have to be CPR certified, however taking this class was a good refresher and I highly recommend it to any new parent or anyone who plans on babysitting your children.

At the class there were three mom's of twins (including myself).  One of the mom's, Kristine, already had her twins, but was unable to take the class prior to birth because of being put on bed rest.  She was so nice and introduced herself to us and invited me to join the OC Mom's of Multiples group.  I've been told how good it is and that I should really look into it.  I had gone on the website a few times, but that's about it.  Well Kristine is taking me to my first meeting Thursday evening!  She said its a great way to meet friends, get support from those who have "been there done that," get discounts ($$) on products, ask questions, etc.  So, I'm going to check it out!

I know there are groups all over, so if any of you are expecting more than one, I would definitely look into it!

Hospital and Belly pic!

I am thuroughly impressed with the hospital we chose, and its not JUST the location that impresses me ;-)  They are  all about keeping Mom and Dad with baby(ies) at all times.  They push not having a waiting room full of visitors, which gives ample time for the new family to bond and nurse after the birth.  With C-sec's the same policy holds true... Baby(ies) with mom and dad in recovery as long as everyone is healthy!  I feel relieved.

It is so important to me to have that time after the birth so we, as a family, can just be together.  C and I were talking yesterday after the tour and are really considering not having anyone at the hospital until after the birth.  I am torn, because part of me really wants my mom there.  I don't think we'll have a definitive answer until either it gets closer or until the day of.  If I am required to have a c-sec I might feel different.  Lots to think about and decide!

I will leave you with my updated belly.  Taken today at 26 weeks 4 days!

Hospital Tour

Today we have an appointment for a tour at the hospital we will be delivering at.  I am very excited now since it is becoming all the more real!  We are going to see a Labor and Delivery room, go over the hospital policies, see the NICU (which I'm praying will be the only time!), and I believe visit the OR.

It is going to be interesting to learn how they do things since EVERY hospital is so different.  One thing I want to really know is if we have to have a C-section, where do the babies go after?  I really want them to be with me so I can breast feed right away.  I know some hospitals make the mother wait up to three hours in recovery before they bring the baby to the mother.  As long as my babies don't need the NICU, I really hope that they can be in recovery with me.

I will be delivering in the OR for either a vaginal birth or a C-sec, so it is going to be interesting to see it.  I also know it is mandatory that I get an epidural just in case an emergency occurs.  But, either way, I am very happy we are delivering at this hospital, it is the best in the area.  And the real bonus... ocean view rooms!

4 lbs!!!

I've got over 4 lbs of baby in my belly and I couldn't be happier!  I just had such a good appointment at the peri.!  Baby A is measuring 2 lbs even and baby B is measuring 2.1 lbs!  Baby A is in the 49th percentile and Baby B is in the 50th!  They are both doing amazingly well and I totally praise God for it!

I've been so worried about my cervix because of all the horror stories I hear around me.  Today my cervix was measuring 4.4 centimeters!  I am so proud of my body holding these babies in so well!  Its like I was made to be pregnant!  I just had the difficulty getting here :-/  I don't know how much longer they are going to be measuring.  I've heard that they stop after 28 weeks, as long as everything is holding up well!  We'll see.  I would still be a little paranoid if they stop, I like to know for piece of mind at least.

What was really cute was we got to see baby B to a huge yawn and baby A sucking on his cord.  It was adorable!  Each time I go the babies look so different to me!  Last time they totally looked different, this time exactly the same where they could be identical!  I got a couple good shots of A, but B was pressing his face up against the sac so his face was a little smooshed! LOL.  It was still cute though.

So, I guess there are pro's and con's of the 4D.  I love seeing them, but some of the pics turn out weird where your like "are you sure thats MY kid?" I know this is horrible, but sometimes I freak myself out and think what if they placed the wrong embryo in me!?  But it IS a legitimate fear, I mean it DOES happen.  Very rarely, but it happens.

Anyways, here is my 26 week update!

How Far Along:  26 weeks 1 day

How Big Are the Babies:  14 incher and they are hothouse cucumbers!  So cute!  They are also measuring 2 lbs, although in this updater it says 1.75 lbs.

By now, your babies lungs and brain are much more developed. In fact, your babies can likely detect light and dark through the optic nerve.  Your babies can now also hear more than just your rumbling tummy, such as outside noises like your partners voice.

What is also cool is that they are starting to open their eyes!!!

Total weight gain: I gained 0 lbs this week.  I'm still hoovering at 27 lbs.  I'm having a hard time gaining now since I'm not so hungry.  I think I don't have as much room in there anymore and they are smashing my stomach.

Maternity clothes: All of my clothes!

Sleep: Sleep has been better again.  Its such an up and down thing!  One week good, the next bad.  Who really knows why?

GENDER: Two precious little BOYS!!!! We are more than blessed :)

Movement: ALL THE TIME!!!  Baby A is still head down and now Baby B is transverse, laying with his head on my right and feet on my left, right under my ribs.  I have been really sore in the same spot right in the center of my abs and now I know why... my baby is pressing right there!

Food Cravings: Milk and cereal, fruit.  I have not been hungry very much at all though.  Food isn't all that appealing to me lately.

What I Miss: Nothing right now!  I feel great!  My energy has even picked up, I'm wondering if the extra iron is kicking in!?

What I'm looking forward to: Getting my babies furniture!  Its coming on the 15th!!!

Milestones: Having 2 lb babies inside me!  They are getting so big!!!

Symptoms: I have been feeling lots of pressure and really sore in the neither regions, and of course, heart burn!  Over all though feeling pretty good!  I have much more energy this week!

Nursery update!

Wainscoting is finally up!  We need to do a final coat of paint, but its almost done! Here is a pic...

I am so happy we went with this, I LOVE IT!!!  Now I can't wait til the furniture comes!  We are getting the cribs and dresser delivered on June 15, three days before my shower.  The rocking chair, I believe, will be here early July.  Its all coming together!

98 days...

Until I'm full term (for a singleton)!  That seems like such a short time and the crazy part is that its going be be fewer days than that until I meet my little ones!  I'm 26 weeks today and am so happy about it!  Each passing day and week feels better!  I am becoming more confident with my body doing its job and holding these babies in!

In a few min. I'm headed for the infamous Gestational Diabetes's (GD) test.  I have a few minutes to kill before they open and so I thought I would start writing today's entry.  I am SO not looking forward to the nasty orange drink and the worse part is having to fast and stay there for two hours.  My doctor isn't having me do the one hour, but is having me do the TWO hour GD test.  I am guessing that they get a more accurate reading.  There are so many people I know who fail the one hour then have to take the three hour, then pass that.  I guess this one is the middle ground.  So no breakfast for me today, just a nasty sugary drink!  Off I go...

I'm back but finishing this up tonight.  I took the test at 8am and it was horrible!  I have heard such terrible things about that orange drink that I was prepared for something disgusting.  Honestly it wasn't that bad.  I was so hungry because I was fasting that I downed that drink in a minute, they only give you 5 minutes to drink it.  It really tasted like flat orange soda.  The part that was horrible was having to WAIT to be checked in (there was only one person working) so the 2 hour test was more closer to 3 hours! I got my blood drawn 4 times... a baseline fasting, 30 min after drinking the drink, then another 30 min later, and then one hour after that!  My poor arms!

The babies sure liked the sugar drink though, they were kicking me the whole time!  They were like what is this?  I don't EVER drink soda or eat very much sugar.  It was definitely a shock to my system and theirs!

Kicks are getting much stronger these days.  Every once in a while they make me jump because their so hard.  When they are really going to town I always put C's hand on my tummy, sometimes it freaks him out how much they are moving and he pulls his hand away!  He thinks they feel "alien."  But, I LOVE IT!!!  I really feel this is the most amazing part of being pregnant!

Tomorrow I go back to the perinatologist for another growth scan and cervix check.  I can't wait to hear how big the boys are now!  I would imagine 2 lbs!  Last time they were both measuring 1.2 lbs and that was 1 month ago!  I am praying my cervix hasn't changed either.  Last measurement was 4.1  praying its at least the same!
