Things are definitely getting back to normal around here! Rocco had come down with another fever last Wednesday of 102.7 (!!!) and we had to change his antibiotics. I have also started him on some baby probiotics since he has been on antibiotics for weeks now. Fortunately, they started working right away! He is almost back to his old self again, with the exception of his appetite. He is still not eating like he used to. When he first had his surgery, he love the pacifier in his mouth I think because he didn't like to touch his tongue on the roof of his mouth. Last week he had enough of it and decided he was done with the pacifier. Maximus, on the other hand still likes his. Both boys are still drinking the bottle. I am waiting until their one year appointment before we think about weaning. I did however try to start switching over to Organic Cows milk. Unfortunately, we got to three oz of cows and five oz of formula and they started rejecting it. Any tips?
Here is one of their new favorite foods... Yam and Black Bean balls...

Recipe...
1 c. black beans (rinsed)
2 c. yams (about 2 yams baked)
2 garlic cloves sauteed in EVOO(optional)
1/2 onion sauteed in EVOO(optional)
2 TBL cilantro (optional)
Mix together, make into balls and broil for 8 min. I froze the rest so they had an easy snack to eat or meal :) I also used all of the ingredients except the cilantro only because I didn't have any. I am making more today and will add it in for a new twist.

So glad Rocco is starting to get back to himself again! I'll definitely have to try this recipe! These kids used to love yams, now not so much... maybe I just need a new spin on them!
Sorry no advice on the milk :( I haven't tried the cows milk yet. I think I'm still pumping just because I don't want to have to start buying milk lol!! Of course it does seem a little strange to see them drinking breast milk out of sippy cups with straws!
I am glad to hear that Rocco is improving and starting to seem like himself again. I can't believe what you guys have been through and I am sorry I didn't comment sooner. I am so happy to hear that he is cancer free. You must be just exhausted emotionally. I hope these days to come get easier and easier.
Thanks Ashley! It WAS the scariest thing to experience and we are just so grateful that chapter is closed. I truly have such a heart for parents who have to endure the big "C." I remember going through IF thinking this is what it must feel like to be a cancer patient... tests shots dr visits, etc. It comes no where near!

Thanks Amanda! I can't believe your still pumping!!!! I'm jealous!!! ;-) I nursed for 9 months, but dried up after a bout of mastitis. I got very sick. It was a down hill battle since even after pumping I couldn't keep up. I probably would have nursed until two, so maybe it was a good thing! HAHA! JK. Maybe for my next baby...
Are you still using bottles? If not how did you stop?
Ben has a bottle at bedtime, but that is the only one, and Mia does not use any at all. I started giving them water in the sippy cups around 7 or 8 months, and then about a month ago started using them for milk. They still drink milk 4x a day, so I started switching the 2 daytime bottles to sippy cups, then the morning bottle, then the nighttime bottle. I think the key is to find one that they like. Ben refused to drink out of a sippy cup until I got some with straws, and he LOVES them! He won't drink much if I give him the cup at night though, so I still let him have the bottle because I want him to drink the milk!
Sorry to hear about the mastitis, that must have been awful!
